Gallery of Art Hosts 'Pop! A Series of Social Happenings' Events

Gallery will host two trading events and a week-long installation

The University of Missouri-Kansas City's Gallery of Art announces its collaboration with Pop! A Series of Social Happenings . The collaboration will result in a two-part upcoming event, which aims to revitalize the connection between artists and their communities.

One part of the series will be two public trading events entitled "Pop! Trading Post." These events will provide space for staging trades and barters. The "Pop! Trading Posts" will be held Sept. 20 and Sept. 27, from 5 - 8 UMKC's Gallery of Art.

The public is invited to attend the public trading events to trade their skills, services or goods, to window-shop or to watch the trading and barter system in action. All transactions must be barter/trade only. No currency is allowed. For more information on the basic rules of trading and examples of items ripe for the "POP! Trading Post," visit the Department of Art and Art History website or call the Gallery at (816) 235-1502.

The second part of the series will feature a week-long installation entitled "Locality as Reliquary." The installation will run Sept 20- 27. POP! Organizers Maria Calderon and Lacey Wozny will curate a group of featured traders whose work and skills will comprise the "Locality as Reliquary" installation shrine.

The "Locality as Reliquary" shrine will stand-in for the live trading floor in the gallery during the interim week. The gallery is open during regular hours to view the shrine or to stage informal trades within the space.

According to the Pop! Happenings' website, "POP! provides opportunities for meeting and collaborating, bringing positive attention to underused public spaces and energetically revitalizing the connection between artists and communities."
