Composer Chen Yi melds Eastern sounds with Western ways

When you’re an artist with a global practice, you don’t sit still very much. So between the end of the UMKC Conservatory of Music fall semester and a monthlong trip out of town, Chen Yi had one chance to meet and talk about her composing career: a Sunday dim sum at Bo Lings near the Plaza. Over plates of beef, dumplings, steamed delicacies and tea, Chen, along with her husband, composer and fellow teacher Zhou Long, shed light on what makes this world-class musicmaker tick.
