We realize that being a college student isn't new to you. For this reason, you can choose the route that is best for a smooth transition to UMKC:
- Attend an Orientation program designed with transfer students in mind. This comprehensive one-day program allows you to meet other transfer students who are new to UMKC, schedule classes with the help of academic advisers and faculty, explore campus facilities and resources, and take care of necessities such as reserving textbooks and posing for your student ID card.
- We strongly encourage transfer students with less than 24 credit hours to attend a Freshman Orientation due to the more detailed level of content that will be provided.
- Contact your academic adviser directly to schedule an appointment and enroll in your first semester of classes. On your own time, you can tie up loose ends such as getting your student ID.
- Do both! Some transfer students meet individually with an academic adviser to enroll in classes and attend the Orientation program for everything else.
Summer orientation dates will be posted in February 2016.
Invite the Family
We recommend that family members such as parents, guardians or significant others — whoever supports you on your college journey — attend Orientation with you. We plan activities just for them so they will know how to help you transition smoothly to college.
How Much Does It Cost?
Students pay $45 for Orientation; the fee for each family member or guest is $25. These nonrefundable fees support Orientation and other activities that help acclimate you to UMKC. The fees are billed directly to each student's UMKC account and will be reflected on the first billing statement.
You will need your UMKC Single Sign On (SSO) and password, which were included in the packet announcing your admission to UMKC. If you are not sure of your SSO and/or password, visit the UMKC Central website for instructions.
