We realize that being a college student isn't new to you. For this reason, you can choose the route that is best for a smooth transition to UMKC:
- Attend an Orientation program designed with UMKC transfer students in mind. This comprehensive one-day program allows you to meet other transfer students who are new to UMKC, schedule classes with the help of Academic Advisors and faculty, explore campus facilities and resources, and take care of necessities such as reserving textbooks and posing for your student ID card.
- We strongly encourage transfer students with less than 24 credit hours to attend a Freshman Orientation due to the more detailed level of content that will be provided.
- Contact your Academic Advisor directly to schedule an appointment and enroll in your first semester of classes. On your own time, you can tie up loose ends such as getting your student ID.
- Do both! Some transfer students meet individually with an Academic advisor to enroll in classes, and attend the Orientation program for everything else.
Transfer Orientation dates will be released in March 2017.
If you are unable to attend a summer Orientation program, you can register for a make-up Orientation program (2017 date coming soon). Confirmation materials will be emailed/mailed to you that include location, parking, and other details. The program will start with lunch. Note that academic advising will not occur during this program; the focus is on introducing UMKC’s student services. To enroll in classes, schedule an appointment with your Academic Advisor as soon as possible.
Invite the Family
We recommend that family members such as parents, guardians, or significant others — whoever supports you on your college journey — attend Orientation with you. We plan activities just for them so they will know how to help you transition smoothly to college.
How Much Does It Cost?
Students pay $45 for Summer Orientation; the fee for each family member or guest is $25 per person. These nonrefundable fees support Orientation and other activities that help acclimate you to UMKC. The fees are billed directly to each student's UMKC account and will be reflected on the first billing statement. Please note that if a student attends Orientation but ultimately does not attend UMKC, they will receive a billing statement from UMKC and will be expected to pay the balance.
Admitted students will be notified when registration for Orientation begins in March 2017. To register, you will need your UMKC Username/Single Sign On (SSO) and password. If you are unsure of your Username/SSO and/or password, visit the UMKC Central website for instructions.
