The IACUC is the Chancellor's advisory committee responsible for oversight and evaluation of all animal care and use on the UMKC campus.
The IACUC, as well as the Institutional Official, has the authority and is required to comply with federal Animal Welfare Act Regulations (AWA, 9 CFR, Chapter 3), with the National Research Council's Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals ('The Guide', local copy ), and with the Public Health Service's Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (PHS Policy).
UMKC is accreditated by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC).

- Amending an IACUC Protocol: Contact the IACUC Administrator
When submitting an amended protocol, email the IACUC coordinator Daniel Crabtree to receive the most recently approved protocol in Word format. Use ‘tracked changes’ mode when making any changes and then email the protocol back to the IACUC coordinator.
- Contact the IACUC Administrator to properly transfer animals from an expiring protocol to a newly approved protocol.
- Use of biohazardous materials, toxins or recombinant DNA in animals requires approvial by the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC).
- Use of radioactive materials in animals requires approval by the Radiation Safety Committee (RSC).
- Laboratory postings for:
- The PI must post an emergency contact list of their laboratory personnel.

UMKC and the IACUC encourage reporting of concerns. It is UMKC's policy to prohibit discrimination or reprisal against anyone for reporting violations of standards or deviations from policies or approved protocols and procedures for animal care and use.

Fees for IACUC Protocol Review
|
- There are no fees for the review of the following research conducted by UMKC, TMC, and CMH staff:
- Unfunded research
- Federally funded research
- Foundation funded research
- Fees for industry-sponsored research conducted by UMKC, TMC, and CMH staff.
The initial fee, for the life of the project, is based on the initial budget:

- Fees for IACUC review of Unfunded, Federal or Nonprofit research proposals conducted by others.
UMKC occasionally agrees to review research for investigators affiliated with organizations other than UMKC, TMC, or CMH.
