Faculty promotions and tenure approvals involve careful scrutiny of performance by faculty committees, administrators and scholars outside of the University. For faculty to be considered for promotion or tenure, they must meet specific performance standards in the classroom and demonstrate achievements in their selected fields.
A department and/or school committee of senior faculty members review candidate performances. Committees present their findings to the school/colleges’ appropriate dean, who conducts an assessment of the candidate and makes additional recommendations. A campus-wide committee and the provost conduct additional candidate reviews, and information is then directed from the provost to the chancellor. The chancellor approves final faculty promotions and tenure.
