Faculty and Staff Awards
Each year, the UMKC community celebrates the accomplishments of our outstanding faculty and staff. These awards recognize excellence in the areas of research and creative activity, teaching, student mentoring, service and engagement. Awards are presented at the annual faculty and staff recognition ceremony in February of each year.

Recognizes a faculty member at each Missouri institution of higher education who has demonstrated superior classroom teaching through a commitment to student learning and excellence in the classroom.

Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Diversity- Nomination Deadline: November 30
This award recognizes and celebrates sustained contributions and an active commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity at UMKC, signaling the university’s commitment to diversity as a core value as well as an enterprise which benefits the entire campus.
Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Community Engagement- Nomination Deadline: November 30
This award recognizes and celebrates faculty, staff, units and campus organizations that have made engagement with the community a central aspect of their approach to student learning and scholarship.
Chancellor’s Award for Career Contributions to the University- Nomination Deadline: November 30
One of UMKC’s highest honors to a University employee who has made significant contributions to higher education at UMKC over the course of his or her career and has significantly enhanced the mission of the University.

To recognize and celebrate behind-the-scenes staff members who go above and beyond the call of duty to improve the UMKC experience for students, co-workers, faculty and/or constituents. (Revised 2009)
Staff Council Governing Board Award
- Nomination Deadline: November 30
To recognize and celebrate UMKC Staff Council Governing Board members who consistently participate in Staff Council activities above and beyond the call of duty and exceptionally and consistently demonstrate dedication to making UMKC the workplace of choice for all staff.
Student Affairs' Student Mentor Staff Award- Nomination Deadline: November 30
This award will recognize a UMKC Staff Member who has made significant contributions to higher education through exceptional student mentoring.

- Brice Ratchford Memorial Fellowship Award
- Nomination Deadline: January 15
Recognizes a University of Missouri faculty member who demonstrates commitment, dedication, and effectiveness in advancing the land-grant mission through extension, international education, and agricultural economics programs.

Curators’ Award for Scholarly Excellence

Recognizes scholarly excellence among Missouri faculty for a book published by the University of Missouri Press.

Faculty Entrepreneur of the Year- Nomination Deadline: January 15
Honors a University of Missouri faculty member for a record of entrepreneurial innovation that demonstrates commercial utility, contributes to the public welfare, and brings visibility to the University of Missouri.

James and Vera Olson Fund for Arts-
Nomination Deadline: April 9
Supports the performing arts within the University of Missouri by funding, wholly or in part, an artistic performance on the campuses of the University.

Pacheco Leadership Award- Nomination Deadline: July 1
Honors an academic administrator who exemplifies outstanding academic leadership at the University of Missouri.

President’ s Award for Outstanding Teaching- Nomination Deadline: January 15
Recognizes outstanding teaching over a teaching career of no less than 10 years at a University of Missouri campus.

President’ s Award for Research & Creativity- Nomination Deadline: January 15
Honors a University of Missouri faculty member for a sustained nationally and internationally recognized record of research and/or creativity.

Student Entrepreneur of the Year- Nomination Deadline: January 15
Honor University of Missouri students who have demonstrated innovativeness, originality, and entrepreneurial spirit in the development of processes, products, or technologies of commercial potential and/or of benefit to the University of Missouri.

Thomas Jefferson Award- Nomination Deadline: January 15 (odd years only)
The Thomas Jefferson Award, funded through a grant from the Robert Earll McConnell Foundation, honors a member of the University of Missouri community who “through personal influence and performance of duty in teaching,
writing and scholarship, character and influence, devotion and loyalty
to the University best exemplifies the principles and ideals of Thomas
Jefferson.”
