Over the past several years, discussions and committees have addressed the need to establish a center to support the teaching activities of faculty. Recently, the Provost's office appointed
Associate Professor Stephen Dilks, to initiate and develop a center that promotes and supports faculty teaching activities.
Dilks will continue his full-time faculty duties while working on this project part-time. The appointment is for two years with a goal of handing over the center to a full-time director in the fall of 2006. The new Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching (FaCET) is housed in the Miller Nichols Library,
in Room 122, in the northeast corner of the main floor.
During the first year (2004-2005), Dilks researched the activities, facilities, and support provided at other faculty teaching centers in universities similar to our own. Other UMKC faculty
are being asked to participate in this research, development, and implementation phase to help establish a center that serves faculty across our diverse campus. In addition, we
are identifying potential funding sources for center activities. |
