What is Grants.gov?

The Grants Streamlining Initiative is the government-wide set of organizations and activities responsible for implementing the Federal Financial Assistance Management Improvement Act of 1999 (Public Law 106-107).

The Federal Financial Assistance Management Improvement Act of 1999, also known as Public Law 106-107 (P.L. 106-107), was enacted on November 1999. The purposes of the Act are to (1) improve the effectiveness and performance of Federal financial assistance programs, (2) simplify Federal financial assistance application and reporting requirements, (3) improve the delivery of services to the public, and (4) facilitate greater coordination among those responsible for delivering services.

The 26 Federal agencies that award grants and cooperative agreements are actively implementing P.L. 106-107 through interagency work groups. The activities of the interagency include development of common data elements for applications and reports, common electronic processes, and uniform administrative rules across agencies.

Grants.gov allows organizations to electronically find and apply for competitive grant opportunities from all Federal grant-making agencies. Grants.gov is THE single access point for over 1000 grant programs offered by the 26 Federal grant-making agencies. The US Department of Health and Human Services is the managing partner for Grants.gov, an initiative that will have an unparalleled impact on the grant community.
