Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
Interaction between the Privacy Board and the IRBs
PI is responsible for communicating, as appropriate, with both the Adult Health IRB and the Privacy Board.
To review any patient Protected Health Information (PHI) (i.e.; screening UMKC School of Dentistry (SOD) patients’ medical charts for information that will be collected and analyzed for publication) you need to obtain an individual’s authorization or request a waiver of authorization from the School of Dentistry Privacy Board by submitting the appropriate forms listed below to, Megan Good, the SOD HIPAA Privacy Board via e-mail: goodm@umkc.edu
Please note: The UMKC IRBs will not release the approval documentation until after appropriate HIPAA applications/approvals have been completed when the research involves certain affiliated institutions, such as School of Dentistry.
