As previously announced, we have developed a series of 6 1-credit course on the Responsible Conduct of Research. Modules a, b, and c were offered this past semester: overview, human subjects research, and research involving animals respectively.
This coming semester, Winter 2006, we will be offering the remaining 3 courses. The courses being offered this term, in particular, cover issues clearly relevant to all graduate students and future investigators, regardless of discipline. Among the topics to be covered are: misconduct/honest in research, peer review, responsible authorship, mentoring, and collaborative science, among other areas. (click for additional information)
Responsible Conduct of Research
Responsible Conduct of Research Research encompasses a wide range of activities. The types of research being conduced vary from disciplines and research settings. However, researchers all have some shared values for conducing research responsibly, such as: " Honesty - conveying information truthfully and honoring commitments " Accuracy - reporting findings precisely and taking care to avoid errors " Efficiency - using resources wisely and avoiding waste; and " Objectivity - letting the facts speak for themselves and avoiding improper bias.
