Free Classes, Programs and Events

No Time to Commit? We Still Have Options For You

Swinney Recreation Center offers several free one-time classes and special programming throughout the year. These events are perfect ways for those students, faculty and staff members to engage with us without the long term commitment of a membership or 8-week class session. They are also ways for our current members and active UMKC students to vary up their exercise routine.

We challenge you to take an hour or two from your busy schedule to visit Swinney Recreation Center for these special programs and classes. You just might be surprised to discover just how fun and exciting exercise can be. We are bringing the excitement of rock wall climbing to campus. Stop by the lawn just outside of Swinney Recreation Center between 2:00p and 5:00p on Tuesday, April 15. Make it to the top and ring that bell!

Wednesday, April 16 (11:00a - 12:00p)

This 60-minute class will get your heartrate up and challenge you and your body to keep pace! We will show you how to hit and tone the lower body muscles as well as the abdominal areas to ensure your workout is complete. Swing by the Aerobics Room (304) in Swinney Recreation Center at 11:00a to join us!

Bicycle Repair 101 Classes

Do you know how to look after your bicycle chain? Fix a flat tire? Tweak your gears? You will get much more mileage out of your bike if you learn how to manage it - plus you will never be caught off guard in an emergency! This class is geared towards beginner cyclists.

Mark your calendar for this program co-sponsored with the UMKC Women's Center. Bring a yoga mat and learn some yoga and relaxation exercises to help prepare for finals. Snacks will be provided as this class will be over lunch. Come on outside and join us and the UMKC Women's Center on the quad at 11:00a!
