Take Your Child to Work Day

This event is not being sponsored in 2008.
No campus events have been scheduled.
April 26, 2007 is Take Your Child to Work Day and we at Staff Council would like for this to be a very enriching and enlightening day for both Staff and their little Prodigies. To quote the website for Take your Daughters & Sons to Work “this day is designed to expand opportunities for girls and boys, expose them to what adults in their lives do during the work day, to show them the value of their education and to give them the opportunity to share how they envision their future.” What better place to do all of that than UMKC. We would like this to be a day that will both stimulate and educate each and every child that comes on campus. We want to show them what UMKC is all about.
In an effort to make this day successful for all, Staff Council has done their homework and come up with a list of on-campus opportunities for your department to look into for some enlightening tours of what UMKC has to offer.
Also, again in an effort to make this day successful for all, including your fellow employees who will not be bringing in children, we have put together some rules to follow:
1) We ask that all children participating be 5-12 years old.
2) We ask that they have adult supervision at all times. Please do not leave your children
unattended in lunch/break-rooms, bathrooms or hallways.
3) If your department does not have enough children to band together for the tours, you
should try to find a department that does and ask if you can accompany them.
4) We ask that when your children go on any tours, that they are accompanied by their
parents or designated parent.
5) Expenses, such as tour fees, gifts, snacks or lunches need to be handled within your
department, as UMKC does not reimburse for such items. Staff Council will be paying for lunches if you choose to go to the University Center Cafeteria. The participants will need to register with Heather Swanson at swansonh@umkc.edu or 5982, no later than 5:00pm on Monday, 4-23-07. Participants will receive a “signed” lunch coupons sent to them thru the university mail. We are also offering (on a first come first serve basis) to pick up the expenses for the tour at the Miniature Toy Museum for the first 20 children with the purchase of an adult ticket.
Following is the list of possible tours. RSVP is REQUIRED
Heather Swanson will be taking reservations, please call her at swanonh@umkc.edu or 5982, no later than 5:00pm on Monday, 4-23-07 and tell her which tours your department would be interested in taking.

Conservatory Time for tours: 10:00am (No more than 10 people)

Miniature Toy Museum Time for tours: 11:30am & 2:30pm (Prices: $6.00 Adults, $4.00 Children (5-12)
Computer Training: Two Classes: 2:00-3:30 and 3:30-5:00
PowerPoint presentations will be taught by Bob Schubert over in the training room at Admin. Center. You will need to have access to a Computer-friendly camera and take it with you on the tours so the boys and girls can use them in their PowerPoint presentations and take them home as a memento. You will need to take the camera to either Heather Swanson or Sandy Joy so that we can get the pictures downloaded prior to the teaching exercise beginning at 2:00 or 3:30.
UMKC Staff Council would like to wish you and your prodigy(ies) a fun and safe day.
