Scott Thompson, MSN, FNP-BC, Administrator and Nurse PractitionerPhone: (816) 235-6133 Scott joined UMKC Student Health and Wellness in August 2012. He received his B.S.N. at Missouri Western State College in 1994 and his M.S.N. as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the UMKC in 1999. Scott worked seven years for Saint Luke’s Family Care, where he specialized in Pediatrics and Women’s Health. Prior to joining Student Health and Wellness, Scott was the Clinical Nurse Manager for Mother/Baby and Newborn Nursery at Saint Luke’s Hospital. He is excited for his dual role as Student Health and Wellness Administrator where he can practice both passions, patient care and management.

Kellie James, RN, MSN, ANP-C, Nurse PractitionerPhone:
(816) 235-6133 Kellie James joined the UMKC Student Health and Wellness staff as a Nurse Practitioner in November, 2012. She graduated from Research College of Nursing in 2004 and began her nursing career in Critical Care. She then attended University of Missouri at Kansas City for her Adult Nurse Practitioner degree, graduating in December, 2009. She is board certified as an Adult Nurse Practitioner by the American Nursing Credentialing Center. Prior to joining Student Health and Wellness, she worked for a urology practice providing inpatient and outpatient care.

Johanna Comes, MSN, FNP-BC, Nurse PractitionerPhone:
(816) 235-6133 Johanna Comes joined the UMKC Student Health and Wellness staff in 2005 and serves as a nurse practitioner. She has a special interest in women’s health, prevention of cardiovascular disease and mental heath. She obtained her master's degree in nursing and undergraduate degrees in psychology and nursing from the University of Kansas, and is certified nationally as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Prior to joining Student Health and Wellness, Comes worked for a local cardiology practice providing inpatient and outpatient care. |

Melissa Smith, DNP, FNP-BC, Nurse PractitionerPhone:
(816) 235-6133 Melissa Smith works part time at Student Health and Wellness as a nurse practitioner and also works at the UMKC School of Nursing. She has experience in emergency room, medical-surgical, cardiovascular and operating room nursing. She graduated with a B.S.N. from East Carolina University and received her M.S.N. and post master's F.N.P. from the University of Tennessee. She recieved her doctorate at UMKC SON in 2008. She is certified nationally as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Smith has worked in different clinics, both outpatient and inpatient departments, rehab/neuro units and emergency department clinics. |

Mindy Heutinck, MSN, ANP-BC, Nurse PractitionerPhone:
(816) 235-6133 Mindy joined Student Health and Wellness on a part-time basis in June, 2009. She has worked as an Adult NP on a part-time basis since 2004, specializing in women's health and health promotion. Mindy received her BSN from William Jewell College in Liberty, MO and her MSN from UMKC. Prior to becoming an NP, she worked as a medical/surgical nurse in both the hospital and office settings. |

Dawne Buck, RN-BSN, NursePhone: (816) 235-6133 Dawne Stelle-Buck joined Student Health and Wellness in 2007. She received her A.D.N. from Moberly Area Community College and B.S.N. from Lincoln University. Prior to joining Student Health and Wellness, Buck taught practical nursing and was a school nurse. |

Shawna Williamson, PharmD, PharmacistPhone:
(816) 235-6103 Shawna Williamson joined the UMKC Student Health and Wellness Pharmacy in 2010. She graduated with her Doctorate of Pharmacy in 2002 from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Throughout her career she has worked in many settings including hospital outpatient, compounding, retail, and long term care. Williamson works with the Student Health and Wellness providers to provide cost effective therapeutic options, drug information, and medication counseling. |

Kate Melton, Health EducatorPhone: (816) 235-5350 Kate joined UMKC Student Health and Wellness in March 2013. She received her B.S.E. in Community Health at the University of Kansas in 2012. Kate has been involved in health education since 2007 and is a licensed Certified Health Education Specialist. Prior to employment at UMKC, Kate worked for Lawrence Public Schools. |
