Admissions, Licensure and Certification Exams

In addition to the wide range of tests offered through the Prometric Test Site (MCAT, DAT, NCARB, CPA, USMLE, etc.), Testing Services offers other exams for academic and professional needs.


Registration for the following exams are made through Testing Services:


CLEP – College Level Exam Program

  • The CLEP is used for college equivalency credits and is administered on an individual appointment basis at the Testing Center. Appointment times are typically Tuesday through Saturday at the times of 9 A.M., 11 A.M., and 1 P.M. by availability only.
  • Candidates must first purchase their CLEP exam online through http://clep.collegeboard.org/. It is $80 to CLEP for the exam. Candidates will receive a CLEP Exam Registration Ticket that must be printed and given to the Testing Center when scheduling for their exam. Candidates can schedule in two ways. One is to register in-person with the Registration Ticket at the Testing Services Office, completing a brief application and submitting a $15 nontransferable and nonrefundable appointment fee payable to UMKC via cash, check or money order. The other is mail in the CLEP Registration Form, Registration Ticket, and the $15 nontransferable and nonrefundable appointment fee payable to UMKC via check or money order. After it is received by the testing office, then the Testing Center will contact you so that you may schedule.
  • All CLEP exams are offered, but candidates should check with their advisor or the institution granting credit to determine their specific CLEP policy, as each institution determines which exams they accept and what constitutes a passing score.
  • A government issued, photo bearing, signature bearing, and non-expired I.D. is necessary on test day.
  • Scores are available to candidates upon the completion of the exam.

MoGEA and Paraprofessional - Missouri General Educator Assessments

  • Candidates seeking entry into a Missouri educator preparation program must pass the Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA). The MoGEA measures competencies in English Language Arts, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. The Writing subtest includes one writing assignment. All other subtests include multiple-choice questions.
  • As of September 2013, candidates with fewer than 60 credit hours and seeking Paraprofessional certification to work in Special Education and/or Title I settings in Missouri must achieve a passing score on the Paraprofessional test. The test measures competencies in English language arts and basic mathematics skills for practicing and prospective paraprofessionals.
  • Scheduling is done by appointment, year round, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Available test appointments are shown during the online registration process. Appointment days are typically Tuesday through Saturday. There are two fees associated with MoGEA and the Paraprofessional test. One is to the test company (MEGA) and one to the University of Missouri-Kansas City Testing Services.
  • During the online registration for the MoGEA, candidates pay a testing fee of $49 for all five subtests in a single session, or $25 per single subtest. For the Paraprofessional candidates pay a testing fee of $35. The payment can be made by VISA or MASTERCARD. 
  • On the day of the exam at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Testing Services, candidates pay an Administrative Fee (Sitting Fee). For the MoGEA the Sitting Fee is $25 for all five subtests in a single session, $20 for 3-4 subtests in a single session, and $10 for 1-2 subtests in a single session. For the Paraprofessional test the Sitting Fee is $15 for a single session. The Sitting Fee is payable by cash, check, or money order. No debit or credit is accepted for the Sitting Fee.
  • An on-screen 4-function calculator and a formulas page are provided for the Mathematics subtest of the MoGEA.

  • Candidates needing assistance with scheduling or registration should call either (800) 215-0996 or (413) 256-7015 .

MAT – Miller Analogies Test

  • The MAT is used for graduate school admission and is administered on an appointment bases through Testing Services. Appointment times are typically Tuesday through Saturday at the times of 9 A.M., 11 A.M., and 1 P.M. by availability only. Pre-registration is required through the Testing Services Office. An appointment time is secured with a nonrefundable and nontransferable fee of $15 via cash, check or money order. On the day of testing candidates pay UMKC an additional $55 via check, cash or money order.
  • Scores are available to candidates upon the completion of the exam.
  • Government issued I.D. is necessary on test day.
