University Communications is responsible for all of UMKC's official communications. Our award-winning staff has expertise and experience from all sectors of the communications field: advertising, public relations, marketing, graphic arts, audio/video, photography, journalism, speech writing, copywriting, broadcasting and Web design and coordination. University Communications is comprised of six divisions. Creative ServicesCreative Services is a service and support team for UMKC's divisions, departments and academic units. Our project managers, writers, editors, designers and photographers coordinate and prepare brochures, posters, advertisements, newsletters, booklets, catalogs, magazines, invitations and a diverse array of traditional and custom-printed materials. We also produce audio-visual and electronic projects. We will help you implement UMKC brand guidelines and navigate through mailing and postage requirements and the state's competitive bid requirements. Our knowledge of vendors and sources for various communications services can save you staff time and money. We publish Perspectives, the news magazine of UMKC and we post the Announcements electronic bulletin service to all UMKC faculty, staff and students via their University e-mail accounts. For more information, please call (816) 235-1594. Electronic CommunicationsElectronic Communications maintains and coordinates UMKC's official University wide Web sites. We work to ensure a fresh and connected look for all University-related electronic pages through site development, templates, surveys, polls, e-mails, screen savers, discussion boards and custom applications. We assist with the online image library and offer consulting advice to all University departments and divisions. Executive WritingOur Executive Writers provide research, writing and coordination for executive-level UMKC personnel. Our projects include speeches, presentations, announcements, analytical writing, non-scholarly articles and letters. It provides high-quality news, information and entertainment service in a non-commercial environment. KCUR-FM 89.3, is Kansas City's National Public Radio outlet and is a source for diverse local programming. Marketing and
Media Services has the responsibility for promoting and
strengthening the University’s reputation and image through the
following:
Developing, implementing and managing University-wide marketing and
branding campaigns.
Ensuring alignment of UMKC brand standards with other communications
and marketing activities.
Serving as consultant to marketing and advertising efforts and
activities of UMKC departments, divisions and academic units.
Partnering with Electronic Communications
to consult, coordinate and review University wide Web-related initiatives and policies.
Identifying sponsorship or co-marketing opportunities and assisting in
development and evaluation of promotional partnerships.
Collecting and sharing current and trend data on the public’s
general impressions of the University, and suggesting communications
implications. Public RelationsThe Public Relations specialists develop and implement comprehensive communications programs that include both internal and external strategies to create awareness of UMKC's successes. Relationships are developed with reporters and editors at local, state and national media outlets to advance UMKC, as well as with external constituents who have a vested interest in the University.
