How to work with a photographer

  1. Do your planning

Determine beforehand if your project requires professional photographs, and if you have the budget to hire a professional photographer.

Projects involving important alumni, donors and community supporters more than likely require photographs. In addition, capturing important campus events where the images will be used multiple times in various communications, also warrants hiring a photographer. Examples include Homecoming events, performances or professional speakers.

If your project requires portraits contact University Communications to schedule a sitting.

If your project does not require specific or new photographs, browse the University Communications photo archive.

  2. Contact us

If you are in need of a professional photographer, University Communications hires several freelancers and can make a recommendation. Contact University Communications for referrals.

  3. Prepare a meeting

Schedule a meeting with the photographer. At the meeting be prepared with specific information on what the event is about, what you want shot (a shot list), what you will be using the images for and how you would like the images prepared after the shoot.
