The $30,000 gift from Huang Zheng and Shu-Ching of Beijing made possible the revamped reading room in UMKC's Miller Nichols Library, which houses papers, pictures and books of famed journalist and Kansas City native Edgar Snow.
The Ji Blanchfield Memorial Scholarship is expected to be awarded for the first time next fall. Before graduating, members of the class released balloons to remember Blanchfield, who died of cancer in her second year of dental school.
After receiving the award from GastingerWalker&, Zimmer transformed it into something bigger by creating an annual student internship within the UMKC Department of Architecture, Urban Planning + Design.
Recent gifts include $1.5 million from the David Beals Charitable Trust, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee and two $1 million gifts from anonymous donors.
