The UMKC Foundation formed in 2009 at the urging of the Time to Get It Right report, a study underwritten by the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, with the intent to develop a sound strategy for higher education in Kansas City. The study suggested the need for a governance structure that would create “a dynamic balance with roots in Kansas City…only governance with roots in the city can achieve the strategic vision for urban higher education that Kansas City needs.”
The UMKC Foundation enables a strong, sustained leadership to advance the university’s interests.
The UMKC Foundation is a separate but affiliated enterprise that is devoted to raising funds for the university, and for exercising fiduciary responsibility over endowments and other philanthropic investments made to UMKC.
