Fundraising Priorities

The goal of the campaign is to help UMKC develop into a preeminent urban research university. The Campaign for UMKC will fund advanced academic and research programs and state-of-the-art facilities, resulting in greater opportunities for student and faculty success, and an even greater impact on the city, region and nation.

Campaign fundraising will focus on four priorities:

EMPOWER STUDENTS TO ACHIEVE

UMKC is committed to creating a community where students can thrive. Our low faculty-to-student ratio gives the university the feel of a small, liberal arts college, while our nationally recognized professional schools offer students opportunities that can be found only at a major research institution. The Campaign for UMKC will allow us to offer our students essential services such as:

  • Scholarships
  • Endowed Trustees’ Scholars Program
  • University College
  • Honors College
  • Law Library Enhancement

ATTRACT AND RETAIN OUTSTANDING FACULTY

The most effective way to recruit and retain the best academic minds is to offer competitive endowed chairs, professorships and faculty scholars. Endowed faculty positions tell the most sought-after candidates that UMKC is committed to achieving our academic and research goals. Funds from The Campaign for UMKC will add:

  • 16 endowed chairs
  • 20 endowed professorships
  • 15 faculty scholars

DEVELOP AND EXPAND WORLD-CLASS PROGRAMS

A central component of becoming a model urban university is creating groundbreaking programs that identify and address some of the most critical needs faced by our city and our country. UMKC is already charting new territory, developing innovative programs that are grabbing national attention, pushing our university up in national rankings and piquing the interest of some of the best and brightest faculty. Funds from The Campaign for UMKC will add or expand programs such as:

  • Urban Education Research Center
  • Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation
  • Center for Translational/Clinical Research for Urban Health
  • Dental Innovation Clinic

CREATE FACILITIES THAT ENHANCE LEARNING

To achieve our aggressive goals of increased student enrollment, new faculty recruitment and new program development, UMKC must renovate many existing buildings into new state-of-the art facilities that foster learning. These include:

  • New executive building for the Bloch School
  • Miller Nichols Library Renovation
  • School of Medicine Research Space Renovation
  • Chemistry Lab Renovations
