Program DescriptionA graduate gerontology certificate program is offered through the College of Arts and Sciences Continuing Education Division and the Center on Aging Studies. The certificate can be completed either in conjunction with a graduate degree program or as a free-standing credential. Students in such diverse fields as sociology, psychology, nursing, dental hygiene, pharmacy, law, social work and education have completed the certificate. Students enrolled in a degree program must declare their intention to pursue the certificate to their adviser and to the gerontology adviser in the Center on Aging Studies. As the number and proportion of older adults in the population increases, career opportunities in a variety of arenas are on the rise.

Elective CoursesThree elective credit hours can be taken to complete the program. Students should contact the gerontology adviser or the Center on Aging Studies Web site for a current list of courses available for elective credit. Students wishing to enroll in the certificate program must meet all requirements for admission to UMKC and to their intended major academic unit (if applicable). They must declare their intention to pursue the certificate to their adviser and to the gerontology adviser in the Center on Aging Studies.
