5519 Teaching Writing: Theories, Histories, Contexts, Practices (3)
This course focuses on issues related to the teaching of English at the high
school and college levels, with an emphasis on the teaching of writing. Issues
addressed may include assignment design, teaching invention and revision,
response to and evaluation of writing, collaborative learning, relationships
between reading and writing, classroom uses of electronic media, and
institutional contexts within which teachers work. The course is required of
Teaching Assistants in the UMKC Composition Program, to be taken either prior
to or concurrently with their first semester of teaching. Secondary English
teachers and others interested in English teaching are also welcome.
