5547 Introduction To Literary Criticism (3) An introduction to major schools or methods of literary criticism. The first third of the course is an historical overview of criticism from Aristole to Northrop Frye. The remainder of the semester is devoted to a study of genetic, formalist, mimetic, affective, intertextual, and deconstructionist approaches. Students will make in-class presentations and submit papers requiring research and bibliographical work.
