Nature, sources and characterization of hazardous waste; collection,
transportation and disposal of hazardous wastes. Fundamentals of toxicology and
risk assessment. Application of geologic principles and methods in the
assessments and remediation of abandoned hazardous waste sites and contaminated
aquifers. Review of selected case histories. Experts from government and
private organizations will be invited to deliver guest lectures. An out-of-town
field trip to a hazardous waste site is required. A term paper based on library
research or an approved experimental project is required for graduate credit.
Pre-requisites: Geol 325, 342 & 350 or permission of the instructor.
