8714R Assisted Reproduction Seminar (2-3)
An in-depth examination of assisted reproduction from a legal perspective. The
course will include interdisciplinary study of the development of reproductive
technologies and the implication for law and regulation. The course will
attempt to situate the legal discussion within the context of the changing
science and the nature of the industry. Discussion will therefore consider the
international development of the industry, the importance of determinations of
parenthood to its viability,potential exploitation of vulnerable patients, and
the impact on the resulting children. Course topics will include consideration
of the constitutional, family law and regulatory frameworks, posthumous
reproduction, embryonic stem cell research and human cloning.
