5530A The Experience Of Health In Aging: Physiological (1)
This one-credit hour course is designed for students interested in
understanding the role of health in the aging population. The 530A course will
focus primarily on physiologic and psychological/cognitive functioning of the
older adult. Theoretical, empirical and applied knowledge of the aging process
is presented. This knowledge is utilized in assessing and interpreting the
physiological and psychological influences of the aging on health. This
knowledge may also be used in developing strategies for the promotion,
restoration, and maintenance of health in the aging population. This course
meets for five weeks. Additionally, a field experience encompasses assessment
and written documentation of in-person interviews conducted with an older
adult. Instructional class activities include lecture, group discussion,
written reactions, dialogue with visiting speakers, and health assessment
papers presented by students.
