Bachelor of Arts: Philosophy
Degree Requirements
Philosophy majors are required to complete 30 credit hours of philosophy coursework. Required courses include:
- Philosophy 210 Foundations of Philosophy (3)
- Philosophy 222 Foundations of Logic and Scientific Method (3)
- Philosophy 310WI Ancient Philosophy (3)
- Philosophy 320WI Descartes to Hume (3)
- Philosophy 321 Ethics (3)
No more than nine credit hours of the 30 required hours may be at the 100- or 200-level.
To graduate with a major in philosophy, students must pass all courses
included in the 30 credit hours required for the degree with a grade of C or higher.
This requirement also applies to transfer courses.
Students who intend to do graduate work in philosophy are urged to take
Philosophy 423: Symbolic
Logic, and to develop reading knowledge of a foreign language. In most
cases, it would be best to know German or French.
