The Department of Sociology/Criminal Justice and Criminology offers programs
of study leading to:
- Bachelor of Arts in Sociology
- Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Criminology
- Master of Arts in Sociology
- Master of Science in Criminal Justice and Criminology
Program minors are available in:
- Sociology
- Criminal Justice and Criminology
- Anthropology
- Family Studies
- Women's Studies
- Gerontology
Sociology also participates as a co-discipline in UMKC's Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program.
The mission of the department is to extend knowledge about the nature of
social life. In the process of learning about social life, students will have opportunities to develop critical thinking and research skills and to apply classroom learning through experiences in community organizations and agencies. Department faculty members are committed to excellence in teaching and work to assist students in developing a foundation for moving into a career.
