Certification Procedures
Upon completion of the bachelor of music education degree, students must
initiate the application for Missouri and Kansas certification in the Student
Services Office of the School of Education. Applications should be filed during
the student teaching semester. Certification is not automatic.
Elementary and secondary student teaching are required for the K-12 certificate.
All prospective teachers must take and receive a satisfactory score on the
following tests for state certification:
For Missouri certification, students must receive a satisfactory score on the
Praxis II professional knowledge.
For Kansas certification, students must receive satisfactory scores on the
Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) in reading, writing and mathematics, and
the Praxis II core test.
