417R 19Th Century European History (3) This upper-division course will survey significant trends in warfare, politics, economics, social relations and culture in 19th century Europe, paying particular attention to the rise of modern ideologies and identities, world hegemony, and the social technologies of dehumanization that foreshadowed the unprecedented inhumanities of the 20th century.
