427R The Darwinian Revolution, 1650-1900 (3) An inquiry into the intellectual background of Darwin's "Origin of Species." The course will examine 18th- and 19th-century attitudes toward time, species, change, race, the age of the earth, the nature of fossils, creation, and evolution, as background to understanding the achievement of Darwin and the reception of his work.
