230 Biological Engineering (3)
An introductiory course that examines biological systems from an engineering
viewpoint using engineering models. The student is introduced to friendly
computer tools to model system behavior of first and second order systems and
the effects of diffusion. The tools are then used to study neuron models in
terms of diffusion, charge drift and the Einstein relation, ion pumps, membrane
potential and the Goldman equation. The tools are then used to study closed
loop models of human muscles, eye movements and the body's thermoregulation
system. Prerequisites: Math 210 and some computer programming skills
