Why a new Student Union?
The University Center was constructed at a cost of $1.4 million (56,000 square feet) and dedicated on September 29, 1961. At the time, the student body consisted of 3,600 students.
Since then, the campus significantly grew. In 1988, the West Lobby was added. By 1992 a new Bookstore and atrium were along with the remodeling of the cafeteria and meeting room.
With the University Chancellor's Master Plan, our campus enrollment will soar- the plan calls for a 21% student increase by 2011 (Current enrollment, Spring Semester, 2009 ).
We have simply out grown the University Center!
