Swinney Recreation Center is in its seventh decade of offering health and wellness options to the UMKC community. Built in the early 1940s, the facility is named for E.F. Swinney – a longtime philanthropist and benefactor to the Kansas City community.

The facility features classrooms, an indoor pool with retractable roof, tracks, a fitness center, locker rooms and basketball and racquetball courts. Swinney Recreation Center is also one of the largest venues on campus and hosts several large-scale events such as graduation, community youth basketball tournaments, employer fairs and music concerts
