Friday, August 21st

7:00 am – Union Cafeteria opens for breakfast

Bookstore open, 8am – 6pm

UMKC Bookstore - Early Bird Textbook Reservation pick-up takes place from August 17th – August 24th .

Dell Laptop Back to School drawing – register to win a free Dell laptop at the Bookstore until Thursday, August 27th – the winner will be drawn at 9am on Friday August 28th. You do not have to be present to win.

8:00 am – 4:00 pm – Residence Hall check-in
Enjoy snacks and beverages as you move courtesy of the UMKC Alumni Association. Members of our UMKC sororities and fraternities will be on hand to assist you with move-in

4:00 – 5:00 pm - Meet the world at the International Student Affairs Office
Do you want to travel the world? You don’t have to go far! Come to the front lawn of the International Student Affairs Office, 5235 Rockhill Road, to indulge in international finger food, meet international students and learn about different cultures.

4:30 – Union Cafeteria opens for dinner

5:00 pm – Sigma Phi Epsilon presents: SigEp's Play House Lawn Party

All on-campus residents are welcome to kick off the academic year with the Department of Residential Life! Join us for a free barbeque, dance to the music, and get to know your new neighbors!

Saturday, August 22nd

9:00 am – Roos Give Back – University Playhouse
Join your fellow Roos from 9-11 am as we participate in a service project and give back to our community.

Come by the University Walkway (grassy area outside the University Center by the Playhouse) and enjoy some fun with APC! There will be a variety of activities as well as music and giveaways. Come learn about APC and all the great events they will be facilitating this year!

6:00 pm – Target Trips - Oak and Johnson front entrance
Forget something? Then travel with the Student Life Office to Target to get any of those items you may have forgotten! A van will leave Johnson and Oak Residence Hall at 6pm and return at approximately 7pm.

Sunday, August 23rd

Union Cafeteria will be closed and all students with meal plan may swipe their card for the BBQ.

5:30 to 7:00 – Sorority & Fraternity Affairs Pep Rally – Outside Soccer Stadium
Come participate in a pre-game pep rally being sponsored by Fraternity and Sorority Affairs and UMKC Athletics!

7:00 pm – Men’s Soccer Game v. Rockhurst University

Monday, August 24th

First Day of Classes

Commuter Students – APC will be greeting you at various locations around campus with breakfast treats and information regarding upcoming events. Be on the lookout for those yellow bags and get yours before they are gone!

Stop by one of the many survival stations located around campus and receive helpful information to guide you through your first few weeks of school. There will also be some free giveaways as well!

“Women, Girls, Ladies”: Continuing the Conversation
Location: Truman Forum Auditorium, Plaza Branch Library, 4801 Main Street (KCMO)
Co-Sponsored by the UMKC Women’s Center, UMKC Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, and the Kansas City Public Library. Celebrate Women's Equality Day by joining us for a follow-up to our November 2008 panel on intergenerational feminism. This year's panel will feature cross-generational, multi-ethnic discussion addressing the place of feminism in the lives of women of color. Panelists will address power, sex, motherhood, the future, and more. Facilitated by Angela Bennett, UMKC alumna, and Director of the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights, Kansas City office.

10:00 am – UMKC Day at Worlds of Fun! – Meet bus in front of dining hall.

Join your fellow Roos for a day at Worlds of Fun! The buses will leave the UC at 10am. This trip includes your entry into the park as well as lunch. The bus will return at approximately 4:00pm. Space is limited! Sign up in the Student Life Office (University Center Room G6) by Thursday, August 27th at 5:00 pm.
