International Relations Council (IRC) Records (KC0095)
The International Relations Council (IRC) was founded in 1954 in Kansas City, Missouri, in an effort to broaden and deepen the understanding of international affairs among the citizens of the greater Kansas City area and to emphasize the role of the responsible adult in the formulation, development and conduct of United States foreign policy. To that end, the Council sponsored, in conjunction with various other Kansas City Organizations, a number of guest lectures each year at which speakers of national and international fame presented their ideas to the Kansas City public. The Council also sponsored an annual "Great Decisions" forum in which a series of closely spaced lectures devoted to an in-depth exploration of a particular facet of international relations.
The bulk of this collection consists of incoming correspondence related to speaking engagements of Council sponsored lecturers or from individuals discussing programs and activities of the Council. A smaller series includes program announcements for Council sponsored events. Also included are newspaper clippings and a brochure describing the Council. 1953-1997.
