Frederick W. Moody (1838-????) Reminiscence (KC347)
Frederick W. Moody was born in the parish of Hurstbourn in Hampshire, England, on January 10, 1838, to Thomas Cross Moody and Arabella New Moody. He had eleven brothers and sisters. After Thomas Moody was no longer able to make a living in England, most of the family immigrated to the United States. The eldest son convinced them to come to Kansas. Moody and his brothers worked several different jobs to make a living and spent much of their time hauling goods along the western trails.
The collection consists of a typed transcript probably taken from a handwritten document. Moody begins by describing his immigration from England in 1857. Most of the reminiscence is comprised of vignettes of his travels to Colorado and New Mexico. There is further information about early Kansas City and Westport, farm life, and his marriage. 1838-ca. 1869.
