Alumnae Panhellenic Association of Greater Kansas City Records (0441kc)

The Association was founded in 1909 by Mrs. John Park and Mrs. H.P. Wright as a social group for college sorority alumnae. In 1912, under the leadership of Mrs. Wright, the Panhellenic Association began emphasizing philanthropic works by establishing "open air" schools. Since that year, the Association has continued to provide a number of volunteer services to organizations such as Mercy Hospital, General Hospital, the Children's Bureau, and the Salvation Army, and has donated money to scholarship funds for girls. The Association also has maintained close ties with area college Panhellenic associations and helped to formulate and revise sorority rushing rules.

The records includes minutes, financial records, rush materials, and photos and newspaper clippings. Also included is information on the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and its effect on sororities. 1925-1982.
