Independence Young Matrons Records (1133kc)
Mrs. Samuel A. Burgess and Mrs. Edward J. Larsen organized the Independence Young Matrons in 1940. The purpose of the organization was to “bring together a group of young matrons whose home interests had made them inactive in, and out of touch with, the civic and cultural life in the community.” The goals of the club are intellectual improvement, charity, and the promotion of social intercourse among its members. During their first year they sponsored an antique show during the Santa-Cali-Gon celebration, they made possible the contacts necessary for the organization of a Gray Lady unit in the Sanitarium, and they helped the Independence School board with the equipping of a kindergarten room in a public school.
This collection contains yearbooks, Holly and Mistletoe Tour tickets, the Independence Young Matron Children’s Theater Play programs, and The Mirror, a monthly newsletter printed by Young Matrons. 1941-2001.
