Litherbury/Beck Family Letters (1504kc)

Charles Thomas Litherbury was born on May 11, 1835 in Vevay, Indiana. He passed away on December 4, 1893 in Atchison County, Missouri. His first wife was Sarah Morgan, and his second wife was Thalia (Fay) Ann DeSilva. Fay was born March 24, 1851 in Highland, Wisconsin and passed away on March 16, 1934 in Atchison County, Missouri. Charles and Fay had six children including May L. Litherbury. May was born April 2, 1882 in Fairfax, Missouri. She married Percy Justin Beck and they had several children including Thalia Beck.

These letters were written by members of the Litherbury and Beck families from the 1850s to the 1960s. Charles Litherbury served in the Civil War and wrote one letter home to his first wife Sarah Morgan. Several letters from 1876 document the courtship between Charles and his second wife Thalia (Fay) DeSilva. Several letters from the 1880s written by Charles discuss his Civil War service and a reunion of his regiment. Charles passed away in 1893, and subsequent letters are addressed to his wife Fay or his daughter May Litherbury. May married Percy Beck and had two children Lloyd and Thalia Beck. There are a number of letters written to May Beck and to her daughter Thalia. A series of letters written during the 1940s alludes slightly to aspects of World War II. The letters are mostly concerned with family matters such as farming, activities of children, the weather, and news of extended family. This collection also includes an undated -family record for Jonathan Thompson and Martha Geer, and a history of Joseph De Silva and his descendants given to Thalia Beck by her uncle Walter O. DeSilva. 1857-1964.
