Samuel Abend arrived from his native Poland at Galveston, Texas at the age of 17, and soon made his way to Kansas City.  He began work as a baker’s handyman.  Abend enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in WWI.  After his return, he began his own business delivering motion picture films to area theatres.  This grew into Exhibitors Film Delivery Service. Samuel brought his mother, three brothers, a sister, and their families from Poland to Kansas City in 1939-1940, and started them all in business.

This collection consists of one photographic image of an award sponsored by the Motion Picture Association of Greater Kansas City.  The award details the life story of Samuel Abend, and includes his photograph. 1954.
