American Association of University Women (AAUW)-Kansas City Chapter Records (KC0076)
The AAUW was first founded as the Association of Collegiate Alumnae and the Kansas City Branch was organized in 1901. It was organized as a social, cultural and educational group with the goal of encouraging higher education for women and cultural activities within the community. Among their projects were fundraising for scholarships, recognizing scholastic achievement, sponsoring speakers and plays, the Christmas Exchange Bureau, and an education exhibit presenting information on colleges and universities.
The records consist of minutes of the Board, the Executive Board, and the General Meetings. Financial records include the operating accounts for the Branch's clubhouse. Photographs and scrapbooks contain clippings, correspondence, programs, notes, and pamphlets related to the activities of the Branch and individual members dating from 1901. The scrapbooks have been microfilmed. 1901-1979.
