John K. Samuel (1909-1995) Collection (KC0081)


John K. Samuel was born in Barry, Missouri on February 25, 1909, the son of Mamie Shaw Martin and Robert Lee Samuel.  John Samuel lived his early years in what was known as the “Chevis-Samuel Tavern” in Barry. In 1961 the Chevis-Samuel Tavern was donated to Missouri Town-1855 as a representative tavern of the mid-nineteenth century.  It was moved from Barry and reconstructed at Missouri Town-1855 in 1963. Mr. Samuel died in Pompano Beach, FL, on August 31 1995.

The first three scrapbook volumes include photographs, newspaper clippings, reminiscences and some copies of original material related to the history of Barry, Missouri, the Chevis-Samuel Tavern and Missouri Town-1855.  The fourth scrapbook contains original property deeds, correspondence, commissions and other material related to the Chevis and Samuel families of Barry, Missouri.  All the scrapbooks have been photocopied. 1839-1981.
