Fields Bledsoe Letter (KC229)

Fields Bledsoe, the author of this letter, was apparently from Harrisonville, MO.  He left his wife and children there, under the care of William C. Rhodes, to pursue his fortune with a gold claim in California.

This letter was written for Fields Bledsoe by a friend.  It is dated July 20, 1851 and addressed to William C. Rhodes, of Harrisonville, Missouri.  Written on letterhead with a California view (woodcut) entitled “View of Coloma, the place where the first Gold was discovered”, Fields Bledsoe mentions his gold claim in California, his concerns about the welfare of his wife and children in Harrisonville, and acquaintances they have in common.  1851.
