Rear of the E. J. Sweeney House, 5921 Ward Parkway.
Not all seekers of prestige addresses shied away from the Ward Parkway address designation. Emory J. Sweeney was the owner of a series of training schools for technical occupations from World War I through the 1920s. Classes training automobile mechanics and radio technicians [after 1922] filled to overflowing. Sweeney built a high-rise school building for his classes directly across from Union Station on Pershing Road. The school building, later adapted to be the one-time headquarters of BMA Insurance, is located between the Liberty Memorial and the Main Post Office on the south side of Pershing Road. This is a view of the rear of his residence.
