The Women of Color Leadership Conference (WOCLC) planning committee is pleased to have submitted required documentation to the University of Missouri Board of Curators for the establishment of the Women of Color Leadership Conference Scholarship Fund. Upon approval by the Board of Curators, the fund will be endowed and scholarships will soon become available for the awarding to female Students of Color seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree in any School or Department at the University of Missouri-Kansas City who demonstrate financial need.
Between 1986 and 2004, textbook prices in the United States rose 186 percent, an increase of slightly more than six percent per year compared to a yearly increase of three percent for most other books.* When textbook price increases are combined with a seven percent annual increase in tuition and fees over the same period, the result is a significant overall increase in the cost of higher education and serious financial problems for the students and families who must meet those burgeoning costs.
The Women of Color Leadership Conference is pleased to announce the establishment of its Textbook Scholarship for Women of Color at UMKC. The scholarship strives to provide assistance in textbook purchases for an undergraduate or graduate student who exemplifies the philosophical and communal commitment of the conference. Each year, the cost of textbooks skyrockets and financial aid has not kept pace with the cost of tuition. Your donation to this important program ensures that Women of Color will have the necessary materials for academic success.
