Walk a Mile in Her Shoes asks men to walk a mile in women’s high-heeled shoes. Walking in women’s shoes helps men better understand and appreciate women’s experiences, thus changing perspectives, helping improve gender relationships and decreasing the potential for violence.
In 2012, approximately 300 people participated in Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® at UMKC. Their participation helped raise awareness of rape, sexual assault, and gender violence and funds for the UMKC Violence Prevention and Response Project.
The 2014 Walk will be held on Thursday, May 1 (rain date Tuesday, May 6), 5:30 p.m. at the University Playhouse. Free parking for community members is available on the 5th and 6th levels of the Cherry Street Garage located at 51st Street and Cherry Street (click here for a map). Please note that parking anywhere else without a UMKC parking pass may result in ticketing.
You can register online or in person at the event. Also please note that all walker registration fees will increase by $5 for walk-in registrants.
Fees for walkers include a t-shirt and meal.
