Walk A Mile In Her Shoes®

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes asks men to walk a mile in women’s high-heeled shoes. Walking in women’s shoes helps men better understand and appreciate women’s experiences, thus changing perspectives, helping improve gender relationships and decreasing the potential for violence.

In 2011, approximately 300 people participated in Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® at UMKC. Their participation helped raise awareness of rape, sexual assault, and gender violence and funds for the UMKC Violence Prevention and Response Project.

The 2012 Walk will be held on Thursday, September 20 (rain date Thursday, September 27), 5:30 p.m. at the UMKC Quad. Free parking for community members is available on the 5th level of the Rockhill Parking Structure located at 52nd Street and Rockhill Road (click here for a map). Please note that parking anywhere else without a UMKC parking pass may result in ticketing.

Online registration is now closed -- but you can register in person on Thursday, September 20 at the Women's Center or at the event. Also please note that all walker registration fees will increase by $5 for walk-in registrants.

Registration Fees

Fees for walkers include a t-shirt and meal. Online registration is now closed.
