Accessibility at UMKC

UMKC is committed to making student, faculty, staff and visitor experiences accessible in person, over the phone and online, so that everyone has the opportunity to access the university's knowledge, resources, activities and events.

Accessibilty Support Services

Student Accessibility Services

UMKC ensures that all students, including those with disabilities, have equal access to:

  • Engage fully in academic and extracurricular activities.
  • Access course materials and resources in an equitable manner.
  • Benefit from university services and opportunities free of discrimination.

Located within Roo Wellness, Student Accessibility Services is leveling the playing field for students with disabilities. They help UMKC students apply to establish an accommodation plan to access the same learning opportunities as their peers, and where faculty can find the resources they need to support their students.

Faculty, Staff and Student Worker Accessibility Services

All UMKC students, faculty and staff, as well as applicants for admission and employment, are provided equal opportunities without unlawful discrimination. The Office of Equity & Title IX provides consultations related to disability accommodations in the workplace for all employees, including student workers, medical residency program learners, graduate assistants, staff, faculty and administrators, including all part-time, full-time, regular, temporary and probationary employees, as well as all applicants for employment.

They also provide consultations for accommodation on the basis of religion and pregnancy and related conditions.

Electronic and Information Technology Access on Campus

Both Miller Nichols Library and the Health Sciences Library provide research and materials accessibility, study rooms and adaptive technology workstations.

Request Access to Campus Resources

Have you experienced a barrier to accessing UMKC resources in person or online or would like to request an accommodation for materials accessibility or to participate in a campus event?

Examples of barriers:

  • Non-working elevator
  • Blocked or damaged access ramp or curb cut
  • Video without captions
  • Absence of a sign language interpreter
  • Lack of large print materials
  • Inaccessible website content, form or documents

Please submit a UMKC Accessibility Concern Report.

Digital Accessibility

We believe in making our digital content accessible to all, including those who rely on adaptive technology, such as screen readers, voice recognition, closed captioning, magnifiers, tracking devices and mouse alternatives. Accessible content is a benefit to all in our campus community, as it also allows more options for user preferences.

Materials on UMKC websites are available in alternate formats for those with disabilities that prevent them from accessing digital content.

Ways to request an alternate format:
