For Instructors
UMKC Connect is a student success system that bridges the gap between students, instructors, advisors, and student services.
Key Actions for Instructors
1. Complete the No Show Survey
Goal: Identify students who may have unofficially withdrawn from one or more courses in advance of university census (or equivalent).
In this survey, review each course roster and flag students for whom you have no record of participation to date. Only mark students who have never attended class, submitted assignments or contacted you with intent to participate.
Survey Workflow
- Survey opens to instructors in UMKC Connect.
- Instructor completes survey and flags non-participating students
- Flagged students receive immediate outreach from their success network.
- "Contact your instructor to remain enrolled in COURSE-101."
- Student confirms enrollment with instructor.
- Instructor resolves the No Show flag in UMKC Connect.
- At university census, students with the active No Show flag will be unenrolled from the applicable course.
Complete the Survey
- Log into UMKC Connect
- Click the upper left navigation menu > Students
- Click the Progress Surveys tab
- In the survey, select a course from the drop down menu at the top of the window.
- Review each roster and mark non-participating students.
- Click "Submit" after review of each roster.
- Log into UMKC Connect.
- Find the desired student by typing their name into the upper right search box.
- Click on the student’s name to bring up the student folder.
- Click on "Tracking" from the left-hand menu to see all of the student’s tracking items.
- When you hover over the "No Show Student" flag icon, a summary box opens. Click "Resolve", enter comments as to why the item is being cleared and hit Submit.
Students can be reinstated until the university census date. Contact UMKC Central and provide the student ID, course name and five-digit course number to reinstate the student.
No, only one instructor should complete the survey for each section. Other instructors may disregard reminders.
2. Raise Alerts to the Success Network
Goal: Raise flags and kudos to alert advisors and mentors to course completion or degree progress concerns.
By providing early feedback, students and their network can make timely academic plan decisions. Please review the below alert types:
