Application Process

1. Read UMKC's Freshman Admission Requirements

2. Apply by the application deadline

  • Fall Semester deadline is June 15. Spring Semester deadline is November 1.
  • Application materials – including official high school transcript, ACT or SAT score and nonrefundable application fee – must be postmarked by the deadline.

3. Choose your path for applying to UMKC

Incoming freshmen can apply one of two ways to UMKC. Applicants can choose to use the UMKC Application or the Common Application. UMKC does not give preference to one application over the other. To submit either application, you will be prompted to pay the non-refundable application processing fee or request approval for a fee waiver.

Please choose only one application and continue using that application throughout the entire process.

4. Items needed to complete your application process:

  • Official ACT and/or SAT scores. UMKC's ACT code is 2380. UMKC's SAT code is 6872.
  • Official high school transcript/s.
  • Transcripts are considered official if they are received in a sealed envelope or sent electronically to the Office of Admissions through either Parchment, National Student Clearing House, or eScrip-Safe.

Special Application Processes

Conservatory of Music and Dance

All application materials MUST be submitted or postmarked by December 1st for the Fall semester. The application deadline for the Spring semester is November 1st.

Applying to the Conservatory is a two-part process:

The Conservatory does not accept paper applications; you must apply online.

Institute of Urban Education in the School of Education

All application materirals MUST be submitted or postmarked by March 1st.

Supplemental application for the Institution for Urban Education:

  • Supplemental IUE application
  • Personal statement of 750 words addressing interest and commitment to urban education
  • Two letters of reference
  • Completed FAFSA
  • Completed UMKC general scholarship applications
  • A formal interview

Six-Year Law Scholars Program

Students are not required to submit any additional application materials to be considered for the Six-Year Law Scholars Program. In order to be admitted to the Six-Year Law Scholars Program, students must:

  • have a minimum ACT score of 26 or SAT score of 1240 and
  • possess a minimum high school core GPA of 3.5

In their application, students should select Six-Year Law Scholars as their program of study. Students admitted to the Six-Year Law Scholars Program will select and declare their major at Freshman Orientation. Students interested in law who do not meet the above criteria can be admitted as Pre-Law students. These options are currently available to students in the College of Arts and Sciences. School of Pharmacy Early Assurance Program

Early Assurance applications are due March 1. Qualified applicants are encouraged to APPLY EARLY in the process as complete applications are reviewed on a rolling basis in the fall with admission decisions being made as early as October.

Students must apply through the Office of Admissions and the School of Pharmacy:


Students will be offered positions in the EA program on a rolling basis. All applicants will be notified of their admission status by Feb. 1. Final acceptance into the EA program is contingent upon graduating from an accredited high school and full-time enrollment as a UMKC pre-pharmacy student beginning fall 2016.

Six-Year B.A./M.D. Program in the School of Medicine

The application process involves two separate applications:

  • The General Application for Admissions to UMKC
  • The School of Medicine Online Supplemental Application
School of Medicine will not accept applications before August 1st. All application materials MUST be submitted or postmarked by November 1st. When selecting your major on the General Application for Admission to UMKC, please select: MED-UNDEC Medicine MD-Six Year Program.

Complete a UMKC School of Medicine Online Supplemental Application by visiting The following will be submitted online with the supplemental application.

  • Essay
  • Short answer response
  • Activities and leadership experiences
  • Health experiences
  • Technical standards

Submit at least three references (no more than six). When completing the School of Medicine Online Supplemental Application, a student will need to list the names and email addresses of those providing references and select "Send Email Request." References will receive and complete the form electronically.
